We are fully committed to safeguarding the welfare of all children and young people. We believe every child has the right to participate in angling in a safe, positive, and enjoyable environment, protected from all forms of harm.

If a child is in IMMEDIATE DANGER, call 999 first.

  1. Report Immediately: Contact the Named Safeguarding Lead, Christopher Birch, without delay.
  2. Make a Record: Write down a factual account of your concern. Include dates, times, names, and what was said. Sign and date it.
  3. Responding to Disclosure: If a child tells you something, listen calmly, reassure them, but DO NOT promise to keep secrets. Explain you must tell someone to keep them safe.

Remember: Do NOT investigate the concern yourself.

  • Prioritise the welfare of children at all times.
  • Treat all children with respect and dignity.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Avoid being alone with a child unnecessarily.
  • Challenge unacceptable behaviour like bullying.
  • Follow all reporting procedures for any concerns.

Volunteers are not expected to diagnose abuse but should be alert to the signs. The main categories are:

  • Physical Abuse
  • Emotional Abuse
  • Sexual Abuse
  • Neglect

Other potential harms include bullying, discrimination, exploitation, and online abuse. Report any concerns.
