The Story of Tewkesbury Junior Anglers: A Partnership of Purpose
Roots in Friendship The story of our club doesn’t start with a boardroom meeting, but with a simple introduction by the water. Our founders, Christopher and Tim, were first brought together when Tim’s older brother introduced Chris to the world of fishing. That first spark of a hobby quickly grew into a deep-rooted friendship, fuelled by shared weekends on the bank and a mutual respect for the peace and challenge of the sport.
The Vision of Three (June 2025) By June 2025, that friendship evolved into a mission. Chris and Tim, along with their friend Ian, found themselves discussing the future of the sport they loved. They realized that while angling had given them so much—tranquility, focus, and a connection to nature—the local youth in Tewkesbury didn’t have a clear path to discover those same benefits.
Gathered together, the three of them—Chris, Tim, and Ian—came up with the idea for Tewkesbury Junior Anglers. They didn't just want a club; they wanted a legacy. They envisioned a community-led organization that would bridge the gap between a casual hobby and true environmental stewardship.
Bridging the Gap: Classroom to Riverbank From that initial spark, the trio set out to build a holistic educational program. They knew that to truly empower a young angler, you had to start with the "why" before the "how."
-
Tim brought the technical soul, insisting on fish welfare and environmental ethics.
-
Chris brought the leadership and coaching structure, ensuring every session was supportive and growth-oriented.
-
Ian helped cement the foundation, ensuring the club was built on the values of fellowship and community.
A Shared Mission for the Future What started as a shared vision between three friends in 2025 has grown into a thriving community. Today, the club stands as a testament to that original friendship. When you see our juniors by the water today, you aren't just seeing children fishing; you are seeing the result of three founders who believed that the lessons learned on a riverbank—patience, respect, and fellowship—are the very lessons that build a better future.
